Punking Diaries -kollektiivi tutkii Punking ilmaisun perintöä queer tanssikulttuurissa. Punking on tanssi, jonka loi ryhmä BIPOC-homomiehiä Los Angelesissa 1970-luvulla. Tyyli ilmentää heidän elettyjä kokemuksiaan tekniikoiden, kuten poseeraus, whacking käsiliikkeet, ekspressiivinen käyttäytyminen sekä musiikin, asujen ja erilaisten performatiivisten vivahteiden kautta.

The Punking Diaries collective explores creatively the heritage of Punking expression in queer dance culture. Punking is a dance created by a group of gay BIPOC men in Los Angeles US in the 1970’s. The style embodies their lived experiences through technique like posing, whacking arms, expressive behavior, music, outfits and different nuances of performativity.

’Dengon’ on intiimi ja immersiivinen ääniesitys,  joka vie kokijansa festivaalin humusta sisäkorvan syvyyksiin.

Japanin kielessä dengon tarkoittaa viestiä tai juorua, mutta myös ‘rikkinäinen puhelin’ -leikkiä, jossa viesti kulkee kuiskattuna osallistujien korvasta toiseen. Sen matkan aikana merkitykset katkeavat ja muuttuvat ja viesti kuullaan lopulta täysin vääristyneenä.

‘Dengon’-teoksessa esittäjä ja kokija kohtaavat kuulokkeiden eristämässä, kontemplatiivisessa hiljaisuudessa. Kullekin kokijalle uniikki kohtaaminen rakentuu heidän välilleen lähteensä hämärtävinä, somaattisina kuulon rajamaille asettuvina sointeina: mikrotonaalisina huojuntoina ja intermodulaatiovärinöinä aivolohkojen välissä.

‘Dengon’ is an intimate and immersive sound performance that pulls its listener away from the festival commotion and into the depths of the inner ear.

In Japanese, dengon means a message or rumour, but also the telephone game – in which a message travels whispered from one participant’s ear to the next. Along the way, meanings break apart and shift, until the message is finally heard completely distorted.

In ’Dengon’, performer and listener meet in a contemplative silence, isolated by headphones. For each listener, a unique encounter takes shape between them – in sonorities blurred of their origins and settled at the edges of hearing: microtonal undulations and intermodulation tremors between the hemispheres.

Voit tilata itsellesi oman rituaalin tai seurata seremoniaa sivusta.

Rituaalikiskaa pyörittävät pohjoiskarjalaiset taiteilijat Onni Toikka, Veera Snellman & Sanna Kärkkäinen. Rituaalikiska on Kulttuurikomppania Eloan & Pohjois-Karjalan kansanteatteri Pokan yhteistyöprojekti.

Rituaalikiska, run by three pagan priests, is coming to Kotkan meripäivät! Kiska offers a variety of rituals that tickle the frequencies of body and soul, which you are welcome to experience—regardless of your beliefs. 

You can order your own ritual or watch the ceremony from the sidelines.

Rituaalikiska is run by North Karelian artists Onni Toikka, Veera Snellman, and Sanna Kärkkäinen. Rituaalikiska is a collaborative project between Kulttuurikomppania Elo and the North Karelian Folk Theater Poka.

Near the edge but not even close on Euraasian mannerlaatalle, ja tarkemmin katsottuna Kotkaan sijoittuva esitys ja opaskierros geologisessa syvässä ajassa. Esitys yhdistää tekstiä, nauhoituksia sekä tanssia ja liukuu geologisen historian ja spekulatiivisen fiktion rajoilla. Esityksessä kierroksen opas kutsuu yleisön kokemaan maiseman kehkeytymiä ja rinnakkaistodellisuuksia. Ihmiskeskeisiä ajan ja ajallisuuden käsityksiä horjutetaan leikkisästi, mutta tosissaan.

Near the edge but not even close is a performance located on the Eurasian tectonic plate, more specifically in Kotka. It is guided tour into the deep time. Combining performative lecture, recordings, and movement, and fluctuating between geological hidtory and speculative fictions. The Tour Guide invites the audience to experience the becomings and the could-have-beens of the landscape. The performance, playfully yet in earnest, decentralises the human concept of time and temporality.

Performanssi-lyhytelokuva, joka kutsuu katsojan mielikuvitusystäväksi seuraamaan Pupun eloa maan kamaralla. Tämä henkilökohtainen, autobiografinen teos käsittelee taiteilijan rintojen pienennysleikkausta, pupun olomuodossa. Pupu pakenee ympäristössään vaanivia voimia riehumiseen, kylpemiseen ja hikiseen bändikämppään yrittäen etsiä yhteyttä itseen ja maailmaan.

A performative short film screening that invites the viewer, as an imaginary friend, to follow Bunny’s existence on Earth. This personal, autobiographical work explores the artist’s breast reduction surgery through the form of a rabbit. Bunny escapes the forces lurking in their surroundings through wild play, bathing, and time spent in a sweaty band rehearsal space, searching for a connection with themself and the world.

”Päivä Pekan elämästä” tasapainottelee kiusallisen show-off tanssin, suomalaisen huippumuotoilun ja -keksintöjen kuvitteellisen huutokauppatapahtuman sekä valkoisen maskuliinisuuden kriisiä käsittelevän puhe-esityksen välimaastossa, johon katsojan johdattelee alter egoni, drag-roolihahmo Pekka Suomalainen. Pekka puolustaa pohjoismaista poikkeuksellisuutta, esittellen sen oletettuja vahvuuksia niin ulkopuolisille kuin uusille tulokkaillekin. Pekka materialisoituu jännitteisesti EU:n ulkopuolelta kotoisin olevan, queerin sukupuoli-identiteetin omaavan maahanmuuttajakehon ja Suomen välillä. Pekalla on elämässään asema, jonka haluaisin kokea, mutta jota en koskaan pysty saavuttamaan. Pekka on yksinäinen. Pekka on oikeassa. Pekalla on sanottavaa.

“Day of Pekka’s Life” balances between an awkward show off dance, a fictional auction-sale of Finnish design and inventions and a performative speech of white masculinity crisis led by my alter-ego, a made-up drag character Pekka Suomalainen. Pekka is ready to defend Nordic exceptionalism and showcase its supposed strengths to outsiders and newcomers alike. Pekka materializes in the tension between my non-EU immigrant genderqueer body and Finland. Pekka occupies positions in the world that I desire to experience but will never be able to attain. Pekka is lonely. Pekka is right. Pekka has something to say.

Karjalan Kielizakon Nygoi!

Karjalan Kielizakon Nygoi! is a noise-poetry performance piece by artist duo vitamiinu and iuliyaaniaaa.

While other minority languages have been recognised and legislated for in Finland nor in Russia the Karelian language has not. Karelians in Finland are subsumed and absorbed into ”finnishness”. An entire national mythology is stolen; a washed out ”journalist” creates a ”karelian pizza”; it seems easy to take and use whatever elements of karelian culture and identity that pleases finland – and yet karelian language and autonomy is still not accepted. Our performance Karjalan Kielizakon Nygöi! (”Karelian Language Law Now!”) demands that Karelian language be protected; that those who speak it should have the right to use their language in an officially, governmentally recognised capacity; that conservation and revitalisation efforts are increased; that Karelians are widely recognised as a people with a land of their own, irrespective of Finnish and Russian imperialism!!

Our performance combines Harsh Noise music (iuliyaaniyaaa) with shouted translingual poetry (vitamiinu). It speaks in Karelian, Finnish, Russian and English. The duration of the performance is 30 minutes.
